The values are x = -1/2 and y = 3

a)

The expression

-10(-x)^2

Substitute x = -1/2 in above expression

-10[-(-1/2)]^2   =   -10(1/2)^2

                       =   -10(1/4)

                       =   - 5/2

b)

The expression

16x^2 - (2y^3)/9

Substitute x = -1/2 y = 3 in above expression

16x^2 - (2y^3)/9   =   16(-1/2)^2 - (2(3)^3)/9

                            =   16(1/4) - (2X27)/9

                            =   4 - (2X3)

                            =   4 - 6

                            =   -2

Answer :

a)  - 5/2

b)  - 2.
