The equation is R+sy=t .

Subtraction property of equality: if a = b then a - c = b - c

separate the variable R by substracting it from equtaion

R + sy -R = t - R         (Subtract R from each side)

Group like terms using Commutative property of addition: a + b = b + a.

R - R + sy = t - R        (Additive inverse property: a - a = 0)

sy = t -R

Divide each side by s

y = (t - R)/s
