Elimination method

x-3y = 7 ------------  (1)

x+2y = 2 ------------- (2)

To eliminate the y value (1)*2- (2)*2

2x-6y = 14

2x+4y = 4

(-)  (-)   (-)

_________

    -10y = 10

    - y = 10/10

    y = -1

substitute the y value in (1)

x-3*-1 = 7

x+3 = 7

x  = 7-3

x = 4

Solution x = 4, y =-1
