To make a banner, you will cut a triangle from an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of white paper and paste a circle onto it. The circle should just touch each side of the triangle. Use a model to decide whether the circles radius should be more or less than 2.5 inches. Can you cut the square from a five by fife in red paper square?

Triangle legs are a and b.

From pythogeron theory c^2 = a^2+b^2

Here a = 81/2 = 17/2 = 8.5

b = 11

c^2 = (8.5)^2+(11)^2

c^2 = 72.25+121

c^2 = 193.25

c = Sqrt(193.25)

c = 13.9

The radius

r = (a+b-c)/2

r = (8.5+11-13.9)/2

r = (19.5-13.9)/2

r = 5.59/2

r = 2.79

Here the circle radius should be more than 2.5 inches.
