-x+y = -6 --------> (1)

x-8y = 13 ----------> (2)

To eliminate the x value add the equations  (1) and (2).

-x+y = -6

x-8y = 13

________

-7y = 7

divide to each side by negitive 7.

-7y/-7 = 7/-7

y = -1

Substitute the value of y in (1).

-x-1 = -6

Add 1 to each side.

-x -1+1 = -6+1

-x = -5

Multiple to each side by negitive one.

x = 5

Solution is x= 5,y = -1.
