Elimination method

y =1/2x-6

Subtract 1/2x from each side.

y-1/2x = 1/2x-1/2x-6

-1/2x+y = -6

Multiple to each side by negitive 6.

3x-6y = 36 ---------> (1)

And 2x+6y = 19 ----------> (2)

To eliminate the y value, add the equations (1) and (2).

3x-6y = 36

2x+6y = 19

_________

5x = 55

Divide to each side by 5.

5x/5 = 55/5

x = 11

Substitute the x value in (2).

2*11+6y = 19

22+6y = 19

Subtract 22 from each side.

22-22+6y = 19-22

6y = -3

Divide to each side by 6.

6y/6 = -3/6

y = -1/2

Solution x = 11, y = -1/2.
