Given equation 31/4+41/2+s = 14

Subtract 31/4, 41/2 from each side.

s = 14-31/4-41/2

Least common multiple of 4,2 is 4.

s = (4*14-31-41*2)/4

s = (56-31-82)/4

s = -57/4
