Let width of rectangle(l) = xft

Length of rectangle(b) = (x+1)ft

Area = l*b

A = 2ft^2

2 = x(x+1)

2 = x^2+1

Subtract 2 from each side.

x^2+1-2 = 0

x^2-1 = 0

(x-1)(x+1) = 0

x = 1 and x = -1.

Length of rectangle is always positive.

So x = 1

Width(x) = 1ft

Length(x+1) = 2ft
