Given

y = -2x + 5  and point (3,1).

Comparing the  Slope intercept form  y = m x + b.

Slope of the given line say m1 = - 2.

We know that parallel lines have equal slope.

parallel line slope say m2 = - 2 and the point (x1,y1) = (3,1).

Point slope form : y - y1 = m ( x - x 1).

Substitute the slope and point  in  point slope form.

Required line equation form is y - y1  = - 2 ( x - 3 ).

y - 1 = - 2 x + 6

y - 1+ 2 x - 6 = 0

 2 x  + y - 7 = 0.

Required line equation is 2 x  + y - 7 = 0.
