The equation is 2 + (3/4)y = - 1/8.

(3/4)y = - 1/8 - 2

(3/4)y = (- 1 - 16)/8

(3/4)y = - 17/8

y = (- 17/8)(3/4)

y = - 17/6.

Solution of the equation is y = - 17/6.

Check :

Substitute the value y = - 17/6 in 2 + (3/4)y = - 1/8.

2 + (3/4)(- 17/6) = - 1/8

2 - (17/8) = - 1/8

(16 - 17)/8 = - 1/8

- 1/8 = - 1/8.

The above statement is true, so y = - 17/8 is a solution of 2 + (3/4)y = - 1/8.
