The functions are f(x) = x/(x2 + 1) and g(x) = 2x/(x-1)

f + g = f(x) + g(x)

= [x/(x2 + 1)] + [2x/(x - 1)]

= [x(x - 1) + 2x(x2 + 1)]/[(x2 + 1)(x - 1)]

= [ x2 - x + 2x3 + 2x ]/ [ x3 - x2 + x - 1 ]

f + g = ( 2x3 + x2 + x)/ ( x3 - x2 + x - 1).
