Put the number  = x then

35% of number = 35% of x

35% of number = (35 / 100)* x

Substitute 35% of number = 21

21 = 35x / 100

Divide each side by 7

3 = 5x / 100

Multiply each side by 100

300 = 5x

Divide each side by 5

300 / 5 =5x / 5

Therefore x = 60

The number is 60.

Use formula n = p m. n is part, p is percent and m is whole.

21 = (35/100) * m

m = 21/0.35 = 60

21 is 35 percent of 60
