1 / 3 + 1 / 8 = (1 / 3) + (1 / 8) -(1)

1 / 3 = (numerator * 8) / ( denominator * 8)

1 / 3 = (1 * 8) / (3 * 8)

1 / 3 = 8 / 24

1 / 8 = (numerator * 3) /(denominator * 3)

1 / 8 = (1 * 3) / (8 * 3)

1 / 8 = 3 / 24

Substitute the 1 / 3 =8 / 24 and 1 /8 = 3 / 24

Therefore 1 / 3 + 1 / 8 = 8 / 24 + 3 / 24

Simplify

1 / 3 + 1 / 8 = 11 / 24.

To add fractions the denominators must be equal.
Find the common denominator
write the prime factors of each number
3 = 1 x 3 = 3^1
8 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 2^3
LCM = 2^3 * 3^1 = 24

rewrite the fractions using LCD
1/3+1/8
=8/24+3/24
add the numerators
=11/24
