Elimination method

  x - 4y  =  - 18 --------> (1)

- x + 3y  =   11 --------> (2)

To eliminate the x value, add the equations (1) and (2).

  x - 4y  =  - 18

- x + 3y  =    11

________

 - y  =  7

Multiply with "-1" on both sides

-1(-y)  =  -1(-7)

y  =  7

Substitute the y value in equation (1).

- 4(7)  =  - 18

-  28  =  - 18

Add "28" to each side

-  28 + 28  =  - 18 + 28

x  =  10

Answer :   x  =  10   and  y  = 7.
