System of Equations

- x / 2 + y / 3 = 0 ---------------> (1)
x + 6 y = 16 --------------------> (2)

Multiply Eq (1) with '6'

6 (- x / 2 + y / 3)  =  0 X 6

-3x + 2y  =  0 ---------------> (3)

Multiply Eq (2) with '3'  and add to Eq (3)

3x + 18 y = 48

-3x + 2y  =  0

---------------------

0  +  20y  =  48

y  =  48/20

y  =  12/5

Substitute y = 12/5 in Eq (3)

-3x + 2(12/5)  =  0

-3x + 24 / 5  =  0

3x  =  24 / 5

x  =  24 / (5 X 3)

x  =  8/5.

Answer :

The solutions are x  =  8/5 and y  =  12/5.
