The perimeter of a rectangle is 176 inches. The length exceeds the width by 62 inches. What is the length and width?

Let width of rectangle = x inches.

Then length would be x +62 inches.

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l +b)

2(x +x +62) = 176

Divide to each side by 2.

2x +62 = 88

Subtract 62 from each side.

2x = 26

Divide to each side by 2.

x = 13

Width of rectangle = 13 inches.

Length of rectangle = 75 inches.
