2(-w-8) +9 > -17

Subtract 9 from each side.

2(-w-8) > -26

Divide to each side by 2.

-w-8 > -13

Add 8 to each side.

-w > -5

Multiple to each side by negitive one and flip the symbol.

Solution w < 5

Check :

If w = 6

2(-6-8)+9 > -17

-28+9 > -17

-19 > -17

Above statement is false.

If w = 4

2(-4-8)+9 > -17

-24+9 > -17

-15 > -17

Above statement is true.
