Given point (8,0) and slope m=-1/4

Line passes through the point (x1 , y1) =(8,0)

Formula of the line equation is (y - y1) =m (x - x1 )

Substitute the point (10,-8) and slope m=-1/4 in formula

(y - 0 ) = -1/4 (x - 8 )

y  = -1/4 (x - 8 )                         (simplify)

y  = -x/4 - 8/4

y  = -x/4 - 2                                ( 8/4 =2)

y  = -1/4(x) - 2

The slope intercept equation is y  = -1/4(x) - 2.

  • Point - slope - form of a line equation is y - y1 = m(x - x1), where m is slope, and (x1, y1) is the point lies on the line.
  • Slope - intercept - form of a line equation is y = mx + b, where m is slope, and b is y - intercept.

y - 0 = (- 1/4)(x - 8)

y = (- x/4) + 2.

The line equation is y = (- x/4) + 2.
