The expression is 9xy / 12yz.

= (3y)(3x) / (3y)(4z)

Divide numerator and denominator by 3y.

= 3x / 4z

= (3x/1) * (1/4z)

= (3x*1) / (1*4z)

= (1*3x) / (4z*1)                   [Apply Commutative Property: a*b = b*a]

= 3x / 4z                              [Apply Identity Property: a*1 = a]

Therefore 9xy / 12yz = 3x / 4z.
