How do I factor this?

0 votes
I'm supposed to factor u^3 - 64. The answer they gave is (u^2 + 4u + 16) (u - 4). What are the steps to take to get to that answer?

The expression is u3 - 64.

u3 - 64 = u3 - 43

Apply Difference of Two Cubes : a3 - b3 = (a - b)(a2 + ab + b2).

             = (u - 4)(u2 + 4u + 42)

             = (u - 4)(u2 + 4u + 16).
