Let x be the width(w) of the rectangle.

The length(l) of the rectangle = four times its width = 4x.

The area of the rectangle is = 256 in².

Calculate the area of the rectangle by using formula: A = l * w.

Therefore, 4x * x = 256.

4x² = 256

Divide each side by 4.

4x²/4 = 256/4

x² = 64

x = ± 8.

Here negative value negligible, because measurements of the rectangle never expressed with negative sign.

The length (l) = 8 in and the width = 4*8 = 32 in.

Substitute l = 8 and w = 32 in the perimeter of the rectangle formula: P = 2(l+w).

P = 2(8+32) = 2*40 = 80 inches.
