Total number of children : 64.

Let A be the event of children, who likes vannila ice cream.

Let B be the event of children, who likes mapple ice cream.

Probability of children, who likes vannila ice cream is 40 members out of 64 : P(A) = 40/64 = 0.625.

Probability of children, who likes mapple ice cream is 30 members out of 64 : P(B) = 30/64 = 0.468.

Probability of children, who likes both is 15 members out of 64 : image = 15/64 = 0.234.

Probability of children likes to either vannila or mapple is image.

We know that when two events are not mutually exclusive then

image

= 0.625 + 0.468 - 0.234

image = 0.859.

Therefore the probability of a random child liking vanilla or maple is 0.859.
