Given that,

In an equilateral triangle the length of each side S = 3x-2

Perimeter of the triangle P = 42

Perimeter of an equilateral triangle = 3S

                                 => 3S = P

                                 => 3(3x-2) = 42

                                 => 9x - 6 = 42

                                 => 9x = 42 + 6

                                 => 9x = 48

                                 => x = 48/9 = 16/3

Therefore the value of x is 16/3.
