Given equations are x - y = -6 and 3x + 4y = 24

                               => x = -6 + y

Substituting x value in 3x + 4y = 24 we get,

                                 => 3(-6 + y) + 4y = 24

                                 => -18 + 3y + 4y = 24

                                 => 7y = 24 + 18

                                 => 7y = 42

                                 => y = 42/7 = 6

Therefore the value of y is 6
