Elimination method

Given equations are 8x+5y = -13 ---> (1)

3x+4y = 10 ---> (2)

Multiple to eachside of equation (1) by 3.

24x+15y = -39 ---> (3)

Multiple to eachside of equation (2) by negitive 8.

-24x-32y = -80 ---> (4)

To eliminate the x value add the equations (3)&(4).

24x+15y = -39

-24x-32y = -80

____________

-17y = -119

Divide to each side by negitive 17.

-17y/-17 = -119/-17

y = 7

Substitute the y value in (1).

8x+35 = -13

Subtract 35 from each side.

8x+35-35 = -13-35

8x = -48

Divide to each side by 8.

8x/8 = -48/8

x = -6

Solution x = -6 and y = 7
