Given

x^2 - 2x + 1 = 0.

Factor the terms by factoring.

x^2 - x - x + 1 = 0

x( x - 1) - 1( x - 1) = 0

( x - 1)( x - 1) = 0

( x - 1)^2 = 0

Extract the roots.

 x - 1 = 0

x = 1.

Solution of the quadratic equation is x = 1.
