Write an equation of the line passing through (-3,2) and (5,3). Give the answer in standard form.

MY STEPS SO FAR:

>>>y-y1=m(x-x1)

>>>y-2=1/8(x+3)

>>>y-2=1/8x+3/8

>>>y=1/8x+19/8

Given points are (-3,2) and (5,3)

Let (x1, y1) = (-3,2) and (x2, y2)  =  (5,3)

Two points form is y - y1  =  [ (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) ] X (x - x1)

Substitute (x1, y1) = (-3,2) and (x2, y2)  =  (5,3) in above equation

y - 2  =  [ (3 - 2) / (5 + 3) ] X (x + 3)

y - 2  =  (1 /8) X (x + 3)

Multiply above equation with 8 on both sides

8 (y - 2)  =  (1 /8) X (x + 3) X 8

8y - 16  =  x + 3

8y - x  =  3 + 16

- x + 8y  =  19

Answer :

Standard form is - x + 8y  =  19
