1)

x^2  =  81

Apply square root on each side

x  =  √81

x  =  ± 9

x  =  + 9    ;    x  =  - 9

2)

x^2  =  17

Apply square root on each side

x  =  ±√17

x  =  +√17    ;    x  =  - √17

3)

p^2 - 16  =  0

p^2  =  16

Apply square root on each side

p  =  √16

p  =  ± 4

p  =  + 4    ;    x  =  - 4

4)

k^2 - 50  =  0

k^2  =  50

Apply square root on each side

k  =  ± √50

k  =  ± 5√2

k  =  +5√2    ;    k  =  - 5√2

5)

(2x + 1)^2  =  1

Apply square root on each side

(2x + 1)  =  √1

(2x + 1)  =  ±1

(2x + 1)  =  1         ;          (2x + 1)  =  -1

2x  =  1 - 1            ;          2x  =  -1 - 1

2x  =  0                 ;          2x  =  -2

x  =  0/2                ;          x  =  -2/2

x  =  0                   ;          x  =  -1

Answer :

1) The Solutions are x  =  9 and  x  =  - 9

2) The Solutions are x  =  √17 and  x  =  - √17

3) The Solutions are x  =  4 and x  =  -4

4) The Solutions are x  =  5√2 and  x  =  - 5√2

5) The Solutions are x  =  0 and  x  =  - 1
