Area of the triangle = 1/2*b*h

Height of the triangle say = x

Base of triangle = 3+x

 1/2*x(3+x) = 14

(3x+x^2)/2 = 14

3x+x^2 = 28

x^2+3x-28 = 0

x^2+7x-4x-28 = 0

x(x+7)-4(x+7) = 0

(x+7)(x-4) = 0

x = 7 and x = 4

Length is positive so height = 4ft

base = 7ft

x = - 7 and x = 4.

Height should be positive.

So height(x)= 4ft.

Base = 3 + x = 3 + 4 = 7ft.
