The equation 7x - 4y = 3

Slope-intercept form line equation is y = mx + b, where m is slope and b is y-intercept.

 The above line in slope intercept form y = 7x/4 - 3/4

Slope (m) = 7/4.

  • Now, the parallel line equation is y = 7x/4 + b.

Find the y - intercept by substituting the point in the line equation say (x, y) = (5, -7).

- 7 = (7/4)(5) + b

b = - 7 - 35/4

b = (-28 - 35)/4

b = - 63/4.

The equation is y = 7x/4 - 63/4.

  • Perpendicular line is y = - 4x/7 + b

Find the y - intercept by substituting the point in the line equation say (x, y) = (5, - 7).

- 7 = (- 4/7)(5) + b

b = - 7 + 20/7

b = (- 49 + 20)/7

b = - 29/7

The equation is y = - 4x/7 - 29/7.
