Slope of a line is defined as the tangent of the angle (called angle of inclination) the line makes with the x-axis in the anti-clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.

Hence slope, m= tan θ

  1. X=18

This the line, which parallel to Y-axis, therefore  θ = 90˚

Slope, m= tan 90˚

This is undefined

  1. 2y – 6x = 0

                Write the above equation in the form of y = mx + c

Where "m" is slope and "c" is y -intercept

2y  =   6x

y   =   6x/2

y   =   3x + 0

Compare above equation with y = mx + c

 Slope, m= 3.

  1. Y=-9

 This the line, which parallel to Y-axis, therefore  θ = 0˚

Slope, m= tan 0˚

 Therefore slope of y=-9 is, m= 0

  1. Y=x

              Write the above equation in the form of y = mx + c

Where "m" is slope and "c" is y -intercept

y  =   x

y   =   1.x + 0

Compare above equation with y = mx + c

Slope, m= 1.
