Let width of rectangle b = x

According to the given problem,length of rectangle is 1yd more than twice its width.

So l = 1+2x

Area A = l*b

45 = x(1+2x)

45 = x+2x^2

Bring all terms to one side.

2x^2+x-45 = 0

Factorize the above equation.

2x^2+10x-9x-45 = 0

2x(x+5)-9(x+5) = 0

(2x-9)(x+5) = 0

2x = 9  or  x = -5

x = 9/2

x = 4.5

Rectangle length is always positive form.

Consider x = 4.5

w = 4.5

l = 1+2*4.5

l = 1+9

l = 10

The dimensions of redtangle length = 10yd

width = 4.5yd
