A farmer plans to build a fence around a rectangular pen that is 16 feet long. The area of the pen is 80 square feet. Is 40 feet of fencing enough to fence in the pen?

The rectangular pen length is 16 feets

 The width be w feets

Area of the reactangle is given by length × width

The area is (16) x   (w)=16w  

The area is\" 80 \"sq feets

So, 16w = 80

Dividing each side by 16

16w/16   = 80/16                                          

 w = 5 feets

Perimeter of the reactangle is given by 2 (length + width )

Perimeter = 2( 16 + 5 )      

                 = 2(21)

                 = 42

So, 42 feet is required to fence in the pen.
